UrbanSealion leads the “Organic Fortnight” in Cowes. The new shop, specialised in Organic and Fairtrade food and cosmetics at number 118 Cowes High Street, has joined the Soil Association to promote its annual organic awareness event. The Organic Fortnight runs from the 1st to the 16th of September. UrbanSealion will follow this year’s Organic Fortnight breakfast theme by offering tasting sessions on Saturday, the 1st of September. Dylan Garcia, the owner of UrbanSealion says: “Eating organic is of great appeal for everybody, especially families who want to avoid exposing their children to pesticides, Genetically Modified ingredients and unecessary food additives. Organic food also has higher levels of vitamins and minerals and tastes great. “ According to the Soil Association’s standards, organic food must not contain any additives such as preservatives, artificial flavourings and colourings or genetically modified ingredients. Meanwhile, non-organic food can contain up to 500 food additives, many of them have been linked to health risks, including behavioural problems in children. In 2002, a study founded by the UK’s Asthma & Allergy Research Centre concluded that all children could benefit from the removal of artificial food colourings from their diet. More recently, leaked reports on a research carried out by Southampton Univeristy for the Food Standards Agency, revealed the possibility of adverse effects on children’s behaviour when a combination of different additives are consumed. In view of all these recent findings, organic food is definetely the safer option for everybody and for the environment. |
